Picture this: It’s Saturday. You want to feel comfortable, but still stylish. Your workwear’s been on rotation all week, and you don’t just want to chuck on activewear because it’s convenient. Sound familiar?
Personal shopper and stylist Fifi Milne joins Leigh Campbell on Nothing To Wear this week to share her best tips for weekend dressing. Here are three you can deploy right away.
Always update the “classics”.
Fifi stresses that just because something is a core item, like a trench coat, doesn’t mean it’s timeless. It’s a trap she sees often when assessing women’s wardrobes that are full of outdated “basics” — because the jean from 10 years ago may not be the jean that feels right for now. “When you do update those pieces, you just put them on and you don’t have to do anything because they look great,” she says.
Try “tabletop dressing”.
Fifi says to keep the focus on the top of your outfit, because that’s what most people are going to be seeing — like when you’re out at dinner or on a Zoom call. “Where you want to invest is in a statement piece on the top,” she says. Smart!
Add a “third piece”.
You’ve probably heard of the rule of threes, right? Well the “third piece” is an easy way to update your casual look. If you’re living in jeans and tees, consider adding a stylish jacket over the top, Fifi says. “Jackets take it to the next level… on the weekends when you want to look a little bit ‘fashion’, it’s going to give you structure.”
