Add to cart: 5 pieces you need for spring.
Burn some sage and make a beeline for your closet because you made it: it's officially spring and you need things that aren’t track pants to wear.
But where to start? You’re hearing talk of capri pants… do you need capri pants?!
Hold on there, cowboy. Rather than diving straight into micro-trends that might not serve us in the long run, we can shop a bit more smartly by focusing on pieces that look right for the moment — but have some actual staying power.
From two-piece lounge sets to flip-flops, we’ve identified five key buys you’ll get lots of mileage out of in the months ahead.
Quick one: Can three words really help you get dressed?
Mamamia Out Loud’s Jessie Stephens recently came across the viral “three word method” coined by New York-based stylist Allison Bornstein.
It works like this: you choose three adjectives — one practical, one aspirational, and one emotional — that you feel sum up your personal style. The words are meant to give you a sort of sartorial compass to get dressed by.
It’s good in theory, but what started as a fun exercise on the podcast quickly turned… existential. After some back and forth, here are the words that hosts Jessie, Mia Freedman and Holly Wainwright landed on.
Jessie Stephens: “Comfort, Effortless, Self-assured.”
Mia Freedman: “Comfortable, Cool, Joy.”
Holly Wainwright: “Easy, Classic, Classy.”

If you buy one thing…

Because sometimes you just want a nice top. Enter the tie-front blouse in light cotton poplin or linen - this style is everywhere right now and it’s the fastest way to switch your wardrobe over to summer mode.
What bra should you wear though, you ask? Good question. Important question. Opt for something lacy that you don’t mind peeking through. This is not the time for your most supportive sports bra.
